At the Ageas Bowl on Thursday, India's Hardik Pandya led his team to a decisive 50-run victory over England in the first Twenty20 of their three-match series.
After deciding to bat, India made a strong start, with Deepak Hooda (33) and Suryakumar Yadav (39) finding the English attack to their taste before Pandya (51) contributed with his first fifty in the shortest format and led India to 198-8.
With Pandya in full flow, things had already appeared to be getting worse for the hosts, but excellent death bowling from Tymal Mills (1-35) and Chris Jordan (2-23) drew them back into the match and kept India under 200.
In response, the visiting team received a lift when Bhuvneshwar Kumar (1-10) removed new captain Jos Buttler for nothing and Pandya (4-33) quickly dumped Liam Livingstone (0) and Jason Roy (4), leaving England in trouble at 33-4.
