Eknath Shinde, the chief minister of Maharashtra, and his deputy, Devendra Fadnavis, met with Union home minister Amit Shah on Friday amid rumors that the council of ministers might be expanded following the establishment of the new administration earlier this week.
Party officials with knowledge of the situation said that during their visit, Shinde and Fadnavis, who arrived late on Friday night, are also expected to meet with President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and BJP leader J P Nadda.
They are in Delhi ahead of a pivotal Supreme Court hearing on a plea filed by the Uddhav Thackeray-led Sena seeking the disqualification of Shinde and 15 MLAs from his faction scheduled for July 11.
