Congress leader Sonia Gandhi has hurried MP Mukul Wasnik to Goa since the party there appears to be in disarray and there are signs that some of its lawmakers may be planning to defect to the governing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
In charge of the Congress in Goa, Dinesh Gundu Rao claimed on Sunday that the BJP was working with Digambar Kamat and Michael Lobo to "weaken" the Congress and "create divisions and defections."
Late on Sunday, Congress national secretary K C Venugopal tweeted that Gandhi had instructed Wasnik to head straight to Goa to monitor the state's political developments.
