The Gyanvapi mosque matter has been the subject of a lawsuit by Hindu women. On Thursday, the Supreme Court said it would wait for the Varanasi court's ruling and postponed the hearing until the first week of October. The Gyanvapi-Shringar Gauri complex in Varanasi, where a 'Shivling' is alleged to have been discovered, was the subject of a petition disputing the survey that was being heard in court.
The hearing in the Gyanvapi mosque-Shringar Gauri temple dispute was scheduled on Thursday after the Varanasi district court heard one of the plaintiffs on Tuesday.
The court also turned down two new applications asking for permission to worship the "Shivling" allegedly discovered at the disputed Gyanvapi site, which is close to Varanasi's Kashi Vishwanath Temple and its carbon dating.
