
According to a government order issued on Friday, Manipur officials have decided not to hold physical education classes for kids younger than 12 (i.e. up to Class VII) until August 7 as a preventative measure for their health and safety due to an increase in Covid-19 positive cases in the northeastern state.
The state administration reevaluated the current Covid-19 scenario in the state before the commissioner of education, H Gyan Prakash, issued the decision. Because they have not yet had the Covid-19 vaccination, children under the age of 12 are more susceptible to contracting the disease.
All government and government-aided schools, which were set to resume on July 16 after being closed for the summer from June 20, 2022 to July 15, 2022, were instructed by government order to stay closed until July 24 this year as a result of an increase in Covid-19 positive cases in the state.
The State Covid-19 Common Control Room statistics published on Friday state that 79 persons tested positive for the virus in the previous 24 hours, resulting in an 8.4% single-day positivity rate.
