According to officials, three bodies were discovered and seventeen passengers are still unaccounted for after a mid-size boat capsized in the Yamuna River in the Banda district.

Officials claim that on Thursday, a boat travelling from Marka to Jarauli Ghat in the neighbouring Fatehpur district overturned after one of its flanks split. Nearly 40 passengers were on board. Ten women and four children were also on board, and there were a total of 17 people who made it back to safety.

According to Banda superintendent of police Abhinandan, three bodies—two women and a child—were found on Thursday following the catastrophe, and 17 people were saved or able to swim to safety.

After being suspended the previous night due to rain and slick terrain, the search activities were restarted on Friday morning by teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).

"Due to rain, it has turned slippery, which is posing challenges in the rescue," said Vipin Mishra, deputy inspector general of police (Chitrakoot Dham range), "but nevertheless teams are working hard to identify the missing persons."
