Sanjay Raut, a Rajya Sabha member of the Shiv Sena, has had his judicial detention in relation to the Patra Chawl land fraud prolonged until September 5. He was placed in judicial custody on August 8 for a period of 14 days. When that period ended on Monday, the special PMLA court prolonged his custody until September 5. The Shiv Sena MP is now being held in the Arthur Road prison.

Sanjay Raut and his family were allegedly the direct beneficiaries of $1.06 million of the $112.2 million obtained by Pravin Raut from the real estate firm Housing Development and Infrastructure Limited in the Patra Chawl redevelopment scam, according to the ED. Varsha Raut, Sanjay Raut's wife, received 13.94 lakh of this as profits on her investment of 5,625 in Avani Infrastructure, a company registered in Madhuri Raut, Pravin Raut's wife.

The 60-year-old Sena leader was questioned by the ED over the case before to his arrest. After failing to appear for two summonses from the agency during the monsoon session of Parliament, he was taken into custody on August 1.
