On Monday, the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (non-political) is conducting a "mahapanchayat" at New Delhi's Jantar Mantar, where a large number of farmers from several states began arriving amidst tight security.
Leaders of SKM claimed that farmers were being prevented from travelling to Jantar Mantar in certain places. The Delhi Police, however, refuted the assertion.
"A Kisan Mahapanchayat has been announced by Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political)... Many farmers have already departed for New Delhi from areas such as Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, and others. It will be a one-day session that is done in absolute calm and order. According to a news release, the panchayat will meet from 11 am to 4 pm.
A memo will be delivered to the Indian President after the panchayat is finished. "The government itself will be liable for that," it continued, "if the government attempts to create any type of commotion."
