A feature enabling the connection of the RuPay credit card to the unified payments interface has been unveiled by the National Payments Corporation of India (UPI). The NPCI said in a statement that by connecting the RuPay credit card to UPI, clients now have more opportunities to use their credit cards, while retailers will profit from an increase in consumption by becoming a part of the credit ecosystem and accepting credit cards via QR codes.

The RuPay credit card will be used to immediately enable safe payment transactions by being linked to a virtual payment address, commonly known as the UPI ID. The first users of the RuPay Credit Card on UPI with the BHIM App will be the clients of Punjab National Bank, Union Bank of India, and Indian Bank.

Only debit cards were permitted up to this point to be linked to UPI IDs. With the new programme, RuPay users will benefit from the ability to utilise their credit cards to make UPI payments at retail locations.

The UPI Lite, another significant NPCI technology, will enable users to complete low-value transactions more quickly. According to a statement from the NPCI, 50% of UPI transactions in India are under 200 rupees, and these transactions are the lifeblood of the country.
