On Wednesday night, Jayanti Patnaik, the first chairwoman of the National Commission for Women (NCW) and a four-time Congress member, passed away in a hospital in Bhubaneswar. 90 years old.

Jayanti, the spouse of JB Patnaik, the former governor of Assam and the former chief minister of Odisha, was taken to a private hospital at around 8:00 p.m. after experiencing problems.

At the hospital, she passed away. She is survived by her two daughters and son, Prithvi Ballav Patnaik.

In 1981, 1984, and 1998, Jayanti was elected to the Lok Sabha from the Cuttack and Berhampur constituencies.

In 1996, she was put forward for the Rajya Sabha.
