The fifth generation wireless telecommunications services for mobile phones, or 5G, were officially introduced in the nation on Saturday by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who declared that it will usher in a new age.
Bharti Airtel launched its 5G services in eight cities, including Bengaluru, Delhi, Mumbai, Varanasi, and Mumbai. Reliance Industries Ltd. announced in August that it would invest 2 lakh crore to roll out its 5G services in important Indian cities by December of next year, including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Kolkata. Meanwhile, Vodafone Idea Ltd. has not yet provided a specific launch date for its 5G network.
The Prime Minister introduced 5G services at the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2022, calling it the beginning of a new era and saying that 130 crore Indians were receiving a "beautiful gift" from the nation and the telecom industry in the form of 5G.
