A Namassivayam, the Puducherry home minister who oversees electricity, warned the striking power personnel on Sunday that anyone responsible for the union territory's power outages will face harsh punishment.
"Strong action will be taken on the electrical staff who are accountable for putting the public through hardship and trouble," Namassivayam stated. "Our government won't just watch this happen,"
On Saturday night, Puducherry was completely cut off as the fourth day of an ongoing indefinite strike by electricity employees against the NDA government's intentions to privatise power distribution operations began. Affected citizens started demonstrating in the streets and blocking roads. By Saturday night, most areas had power back, and according to Namassivayam, it was totally restored by Sunday midday.
