The Railway Ministry in India has planned to run 179 pairs of special trains to help with the heavy passenger numbers as the country prepares for the holiday travel season, as per news service ANI on Friday. To these special trains, Indian Railways will travel 2,269 more miles from now through Chhath Puja on Oct 30.

In tune with the holiday spirit, the Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) provided a special Durga Puja cuisine on board trains last week. As per sources, over 70 trains travelling through the IRCTC's e-catering terminals at Howrah, Sealdah, and Asansol stations in West Bengal and Jasidih Junction in Jharkhand had access to the special menu.

Over the fourth-largest rail network in the world, Indian Railways runs 5,660 suburban trains and roughly 3,000 passenger trains. According to a report by the news agency PTI, there are roughly 2.23 crore passengers transported everyday. Around 3,240 mail and express trains are operated by the railways, including the Vande Bharat Express, Gatimaan Express, Rajdhani Express, Shatabdi Express, Humsaafar Express, Tejas Express, Duronto Express, Antyodaya Express, Garib Rath Express, Sampark Kranti Express, Yuva Express, Uday Express, Janshatabdi Express, and other types of train services.
