Mulayam Singh Yadav, founder of the Samajwadi Party, passed away after a protracted illness. He was 82. The seasoned statesman, who was receiving treatment at Gurugram's Medanta Hospital, has previously held the office of Uttar Pradesh's chief minister. He had previously served as the defence minister of India.
