The Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav passed away on Monday at a hospital in Gurugram, Haryana, where he had been receiving treatment since August 22. Saifai in Uttar Pradesh is preparing to pay its final respects to him. Age-wise, he was 82.

Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, is among the numerous chief ministers who are anticipated to attend the funeral. The Samajwadi Party leader's medical visit from Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is also anticipated.

The funeral service on the SP turf may also be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He stated on Monday that the passing of Mulayam Yadav was a "major setback" for Indian politics. Ahead of the 2019 midterm elections, he recalled his talk with the seasoned politician, who had previously served as India's defence minister, as well as his involvement during the Emergency period when Indira Gandhi was the prime minister.

As word of the SP patron's passing spread and his mortal remains arrived for the final rites, a fog of gloom fell over Saifai, his home hamlet. As part of a 300-person convoy, a sizable gathering of fans showered petals on the hearse van.
