After being prevented from returning to China to resume their studies for more than two years due to stringent Covid-19 travel restrictions set by the nation in early 2020 at the start of the pandemic, more than 1,300 Indian students have gotten visas to do so.

Liu Jinsong, director-general of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Department of Asian Affairs, met with Pradeep Rawat, the Indian ambassador to China, and updated him on the situation.

Numerous Indian students enrolled in medical schools in China are currently confined to their homes. Numerous Chinese universities currently host over 23,000 Indian students, the vast majority of whom are studying medicine.

China has long been urged to permit the students' return by India. Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar had emphasised the urgency of the procedure when discussing the repatriation of Indian students to China in July talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
