On September 29, a Russian aircraft fired a missile at a British plane patrolling in international airspace over the Black Sea, according to defence minister Ben Wallace.

In response to the event, Britain paused patrols, according to Wallace, and Sergei Shoigu, the Russian defence minister, was informed of their worries. Wallace claimed that Britain had now restarted patrols while Russia claimed that there had been a technical error.

He stated that fighter aircraft are increasingly accompanying the missions. (Editing by Kate Holton; reporting by Kylie MacLellan; written by William James)
