On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi requested that all states and union territories consider allowing all police officers in the nation to wear the same uniform. He claimed that this was not an imposition but rather had the ability to give the force a unified identity.
The prime minister also emphasised the need for states to cooperate because crimes are now transnational when speaking on the second day of a conference of state home ministers and top law enforcement and security officials in Haryana. He also stressed the need for the deployment of technology like 5G.
The Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPRD), a research tank for the home ministry, created nine prototypes of a new all-weather "smart uniform" for police officers in 2017. Research at the time indicated that police uniforms were not uniform. "Although the fundamental fit and colour varied from state to state, there were problems such heavy trouser fabric that made it uncomfortable in hot climates and a lack of space to carry personal or professional goods. The metal belts are too wide and big, and the helmets are excessively heavy in law-and-order situations, according to a Smart Uniform report reviewed by HT.
