According to persons acquainted with the situation, a Taiwanese minister will travel to India this week together with a 70-member trade team for in-depth discussions on economic cooperation and to explore new opportunities at two commercial events.

The annual conference of the deputy economic ministers of Taiwan and India has essentially been going on for the past two years due to the Covid-19 epidemic. Meetings in person have resumed with the arrival of Chern-Chyi Chen, deputy minister of Taiwan's economic affairs ministry.

The deputy ministers' forum can discuss other crucial topics, such as collaboration in research and technology, in addition to economic ones, according to one of those mentioned above.

The meeting occurs at a time when the Indian side is in discussions to establish plants in the nation as part of the government's intentions to lead in high-tech manufacturing with some of Taiwan's largest chipmakers, including Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Additionally, it occurs at a time when the military standoff along the Line of Actual Control is seriously straining India's relations with China (LAC).
