A senior police officer announced on Monday that a man had been detained in south Delhi on suspicion of killing his live-in partner after an argument in May of this year, chopping up her body, stuffing it into a refrigerator, and scattering the pieces throughout the city over the following few weeks.

According to the police, the man was apprehended when the father of the 26-year-old woman, Shraddha, reported his inability to contact her after months of trying.

A senior police official claimed that when they questioned the man, named as Aftab Poonawalla, about his live-in partner, he admitted to the crime and claimed that he had sliced her body into 35 pieces.

The only admissible evidence against an accused person is a confession made in front of a court.

The woman allegedly interacted with the accused while working in a call centre in Mumbai, according to early findings.

Their romance was rejected by her parents. They eventually relocated to Delhi and began residing in the Mehrauli neighbourhood of south Delhi.
