The Supreme Court praised the government on Friday for its efforts in safely removing hundreds of Indians from war-torn Ukraine. While praising the Centre's honest efforts, the Supreme Court expressed concern over people's apprehension.

The Supreme Court noted the Centre's claim that it has evacuated 17,000 displaced Indians from Ukraine's crisis zone and that attempts are on to remove thousands in the coming days.

A bench led by Chief Justice N V Ramana praised Attorney General K K Venugopal's personal efforts to enable the evacuation of Bengaluru resident Fathima Ahana and several other medical students stuck near the Romanian border in Ukraine.

Venugopal informed the bench, which included justices A S Bopanna and Hima Kolhi, that a total of 17,000 trapped individuals had been evacuated from the crisis zone in Ukraine.

"We applaud the Centre's efforts. We're not going to say anything about it. However, we are concerned as well "The bench remarked. The bench, on the other hand, stated that "Regrettably, we have not learned from our mistakes and continue to resort to violence. We don't have a lot of say, but there's a lot of concern about pupils."

Hearing two petitions linked to the expulsion of students and others from Ukraine, the court requested the Centre to consider establishing a helpline for the stranded people's families.

Attorney General KK Venugopal told the Supreme Court that Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia had called the petitioner student, who had been stranded at the Ukraine border and had now crossed into Romania and will be flown back to India on a special flight tonight.
