During 'Question Hour' at the Parliament, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, while answering a question about EV Charging Stations, made a request to the honourable speaker, asking for EV Chargers to be placed in the parking lots of members. "Now is the time for the Parliament to start electric charging stations on parking spaces, giving this facility to the honourable members of the house by which they may acquire electric automobiles and come here to charge their cars," he remarked.

He went on to say that this facility will be available at all government offices so that more people can switch to green transportation. Just as Gadkari finished speaking, Om Birla, the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, interrupted him to say that members will have to pay to have their automobiles taxed.

However, Gadkari went on to explain that the new parliament building should feature rooftop solar panels so that the energy accumulated may be utilised to charge automobiles for free, and the energy consumed by the cars will be 100% green.
