A double-decker bus overturned on the Lucknow-Gorakhpur national highway Tuesday morning, killing three passengers and injuring 30 others, according to authorities.
They claimed the accident happened about 7 a.m., when a private bus going for Basti and Siddharthnagar from Delhi crashed on the highway near Mumtaz Nagar area under Cantonment police station.
The police said that all of the injured were taken to the Faizabad District Hospital, where 12 were hospitalised and the rest were discharged after receiving first-aid.
Ramesh (35), a Siddharthnagar resident, and two unidentified people were among those killed.
According to Arun Pratap Singh, SHO Cantonment Police Station, efforts are being made to identify the two people who were killed.
Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, expressed regret for the deaths of three individuals.
He sent District Magistrate and SSP to the scene immediately, expressing condolences to the dead families and directing quick relief and rescue measures.
