KS Eshwarappa, a Karnataka minister, has been identified in a police investigation into the suicide of a contractor who was found dead in an Udupi lodge yesterday after accusing him of corruption, according to sources.

The minister is accused of driving contractor Santosh Patil to commit suicide, according to the FIR.

The FIR also names Mr Eshwarappa's two associates, Basavaraj and Ramesh, who were listed in a complaint submitted by Santosh Patil's brother Prashant.

Mr Patil had accused the minister's colleagues of seeking a 40?e to clear his bill for the Rs 4 crore job he had done in the department of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj.

"I'm not sure what he meant by resignation. When we speak directly, it will be evident. As a result, we'll make a choice "According to the Chief Minister.

Mr. Bommai stated that he has ordered the police to conduct a prompt and transparent investigation into the contractor's death.

Meanwhile, a delegation from the Karnataka Congress, led by state party chief DK Shivakumar and former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, met with Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot, requesting that Mr Eshwarappa be removed from the state government and arrested in connection with the contractor's death.

Similar allegations were made against then-Home Minister KJ George in 2017 in connection with the death of Deputy Superintendent of Police MK Ganapathy, according to Siddaramaiah.
