According to the recent circular released by the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, the Education Ministry has removed quotas for admissions to Kendriya Vidyalayas in numerous categories, including Members of Parliament (MPs) and District Magistrates (DMs) (KVS).

Following a review, the KVS had put all discretionary quotas for admissions to KV schools across the country on hold, including the MP quota.

"Several discretionary quotas that were over the approved students' strength have been discontinued in a revolutionary measure to streamline admissions at Kendriya Vidyalas and improve the quality of education," government sources informed ANI.

According to sources, the Education Minister and Chairman of KVS Dharmendra Pradhan recently conducted a review of KVS operations, during which it was discovered that these quotas overcrowd classrooms, thereby impacting the pupil-teacher ratio and the quality of teaching-learning.

The discretionary quotas, according to the government official, had also affected the overall percentage of SC/ST/OBC reservations in schools.

"With all of these considerations in mind, the Ministry of Education, Sponsoring Agency, MPs, and other discretionary quotas have been eliminated. The Minister of Education used to suggest students, however that practise has since been abandoned "according to the sources

"Under the PM CARES Children scheme, admissions for a single girl child and those orphaned due to COVID will continue. Discretionary quotas for wards of Kashmiri migrants, paramilitary troops, intelligence services, and other groups continue to exist. Furthermore, children of KV employees, meritorious children in the fine arts, athletics, and recipients of bravery awards, among others, will continue to be admitted under a discretionary quota. Even these quotas will be imposed only at the local level, after school principals have carefully examined all required paperwork "ANI quoted a KV official as saying.

According to the KV official, these efforts would ensure that KVs become the best schools in the country, providing quality education in accordance with the National Education Policy 2020 mission.
