After Mumbai Police Commissioner Sanjay Pandey refuted with video evidence Maharashtra MP Navneet Rana and her MLA husband Ravi Rana's claims of "inhuman treatment" in the Khar police station, questions have been raised about the MP's clarification claiming "ill-treatment" in the Santacruz police station lock-up rather than the Khar police station. The pair was sentenced to prison by a Bandra magistrate, according to a copy of the ruling.

The accused were produced before the court at 12:30 pm, where they did not complain against the police, according to the remand order's first paragraph.

When an accused is taken before a magistrate for remand, the first thing the magistrate asks is whether they have any complaints against the police.

According to Mumbai police sources, if the Rana couple had been mistreated, they would have immediately informed the magistrate.

In response to the charges of "ill-treatment," the Mumbai Police Department is scheduled to release CCTV footage from the Santacruz police station to show that the accused couple was treated properly even there, according to news agency ANI.

The pair scoffed at the Mumbai police's claim, claiming it was politically motivated

"Every irrational and irrational claim with a political motivation does not demand a response. Allow them to present proof, and we'll take care of the rest "Rizwan Merchant, the couple's lawyer, said ANI.

The Independent MP from Amravati had previously written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, alleging "inhuman treatment" after her "illegal arrest" at the "Khar police station," where she said she was refused water and subjected to casteist remarks.

Following that, the Mumbai Police Commissioner tweeted a 12-second video with the comment "Do we say anything else?" The Rana couple can be seen sitting on chairs and sipping tea in front of police officers at a police station in the footage. Mineral water bottles may also be seen on the table in front of them.

The couple's lawyer then clarified that Navneet Rana's accusation of ill-treatment does not pertain to his incarceration at Khar police station, but rather to his confinement at Santacruz police station.

Navneet Rana and Ravi Rana were arrested on Saturday after calling for a Hanuman Chalisa chant outside Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray's house, 'Matoshree,' in Mumbai, which sparked angry protests from Shiv Sena workers and supporters. The pair eventually cancelled their call, citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's upcoming engagement in Mumbai.
