Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia of the Gauhati High Court and Justice Jamshed B Pardiwala of the Gujarat High Court were sworn in as Supreme Court judges in New Delhi on Monday.

During a ceremony at the newly-built auditorium of the Supreme Court's extra building complex, Chief Justice of India NV Ramana administered the oath of office to Justices Dhulia and Pardiwala.

The highest court will regain its full strength of 34 judges with the appointment of Justice Dhulia and Justice Pardiwala, which had been reduced to 32 following the retirement of Justice R Subhash Reddy on January 4 this year.

According to people familiar with the procedure for appointing members of the higher judiciary, Justice Pardiwala will serve as Chief Justice for more than two years.

Justice Dhulia is the brother of national award-winning film director and actor Tigmanshu Dhulia, who would be the second judge from Uttarakhand to be upgraded. He will be in office for just over three years.
