The Supreme Court permitted reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBC) in local body elections on Wednesday, which came as a huge relief to the Madhya Pradesh government.
The Supreme Court accepted the Backward Classes Welfare Commission's report and ordered the State Election Commission to hold polls within a week.
The Backward Classes Welfare Commission released its report, stating that the "triple test" was followed.
The state administration of Madhya Pradesh had submitted an amendment request, demanding revisions to the Supreme Court's May 10 order, which had not cleared OBC reservation in local elections.
Madhya Pradesh has been without local body elections for nearly two years, and over 23,000 seats are currently vacant.
