The State Bank of India has expressed its condolences on the loss of Vijay Kumar, an SBI branch manager in Jammu & Kashmir. In J&K's Kulgam, Vijay Kumar worked as a branch manager for Ellaquai Dehati Bank (EBD), a Srinagar-based Regional Rural Bank supported by the SBI. On Thursday morning, militants shot and killed Kumar in Areah Mohanpora village in Kulgam. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was declared dead by physicians.

Vijay Kumar, a Rajasthani national, was only 29 years old when he joined EDB in March 2019.

"Vijay Kumar was one of many such bankers from from various areas of the nation, who are working in the Kashmir Valley and other tough places to ensure delivery of uninterrupted financial services to the public," SBI said in a statement.

"SBI, as the bank's sponsor, is committed to the safety and well-being of all of its workers, including those stationed in the Valley. The EDB will guarantee that the grieving family receives the appropriate help – both financial and non-financial – as soon as possible "SBI has been added.
