Two adolescent guys have been arrested for allegedly rapping a schoolgirl in Hyderabad's Jubilee Hills last week, police reported on Saturday. One of them is the son of a Telangana Rashtra Samithi local leader, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao.
Saduddin Malik, one of the defendants, was arrested yesterday.
On May 28, a 17-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by five young males as she returned home from a party in Hyderabad's Jubilee Hills neighbourhood. Based on CCTV evidence and the survivor's story, the police have identified all five. There are three of them who are minors.
The crime in the heart of Telangana's capital, which allegedly involved politicians' children driving fancy automobiles, has sparked widespread outrage. The allegations that the state Home Minister's grandson is involved are false, according to senior police officer Joel Davis.
A clip from the security camera footage that has gone viral on social media shows the girl standing outside the pub where she met the suspects with them.
The lads had volunteered to drop her off at her house. They instead went to a bakery and coffee shop, where they transformed into an Innova. She was assaulted inside a parked vehicle in the city after travelling for a while. While the others stood guard outside, they took turns rapping her.
Based on the girl's father's accusation, the police initially filed a case of "outraging modesty." Later, it was modified to a rape case.
