On Tuesday, June 28, Justice Satish Chandra Sharma took an oath to serve as the chief justice of the Delhi High Court. At a ceremony held in the L-secretariat, G's the Raj Niwas, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena administered the oath to the 60-year-old Justice Sharma. Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, and Somnath Bharti and Madan Lal, legislators for the Aam Aadmi Party, were present at the ceremony. Senior judges and attorneys attended the ceremony as well.

Notably, with the retirement of Justice D N Patel, the Delhi High Court had been operating without a regular chief justice. Since March 13, Justice Vipin Sanghi has served as interim Chief Justice. He is currently serving as the Uttarakhand High Court's chief justice.

Justice Satish Chandra Sharma, Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court, has just been recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium to serve as the new Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court. Additionally, the Collegium had advocated for the promotion of Justice Vipin Sanghi to Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court from his position as Acting Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court.

The Collegium also suggested that Justices AA Sayed, SS Shinde, Rashmin M. Chhaya, and Ujjal Bhuyan be elevated to the positions of Chief Justices of the High Courts of Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gauhati, and Telangana, respectively. The Collegium, presided over by Chief Justice of India NV Ramana, made the choice.

Previously, Chief Justice Sharma presided over the Telangana High Court. Satish Chandra Sharma, the chief justice of the Telangana High Court, was recently transferred to the Delhi High Court by the Central government. On June 19, 2022, the Ministry of Law and Justice released a notification in this regard. It stated that, in accordance with the authority granted by clause (1) of Article 222 of the Indian Constitution, the President is pleased to appoint Justice Satish Chandra Sharma, Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court, as the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court and to direct him to assume responsibility for the office of the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, according to an ANI report .
