Following a request from the federal government, senior attorney K K Venugopal has consented to stay on as the Attorney General for India for three more months, according to official sources on Wednesday. On June 30, his current term was set to expire.

The sources claimed that Venugopal was unwilling to remain in the constitutional position for "personal reasons." But in response to a request from the national government, he has agreed to remain the top lawyer for the Union of India for an additional three months.

In July 2017, the President of India elevated Venugopal, 91, to the position of Attorney General of India. Later, he received a new appointment to the position. He had taken Mukul Rohatgi's place.

An outstanding Supreme Court lawyer, Venugopal has testified in numerous matters involving crucial Constitutional and corporate law concerns. Between 1979 and 1980, he served as an additional solicitor general for India. In 2002 and 2015, he received the Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan awards

President Joe Biden slammed "criminal" professional smugglers for the tragedy as the number of illegal immigrants who died after being left in a hot trailer in Texas reached 51.

Following the discovery of the tractor-trailer on a remote road in her district on Monday, Rebeca Clay-Flores, a Bexar County official, confirmed the updated death toll as "39 males and 12 women."

She did not specify the number of survivors still being treated in hospitals, but based on the preliminary estimates provided by officials, it may be around 11, perhaps including four children.

As Biden targeted people smuggling organisations, the Department of Homeland Security disclosed that it had begun a criminal investigation.
