Sunder Sham Arora, an ex minister of commerce and industries in Punjab, was detained on Saturday night in Zirakpur while attempting to bribe an assistant inspector general of the vigilance department, a top agency official said on Sunday.

The selling of a 32-acre commercial property to a reality company in Mohali in 2020 and inconsistencies in the allocation of industrial plots under the auspices of the Punjab Small Industries and Export Corporation (PSIEC) are the subject of various vigilance inquiries involving Arora, age 62.

In Hoshiarpur, raids were also carried out on Saturday night at locations connected to Arora and his family. Mani, Arora's personal assistant, was also detained on Sunday at his house in Hoshiarpur.

During the arrest, the agency also found 50 lakh rupees in Arora's possession, which it claimed was intended to be used to bribe Kumar.
