In a joint operation with Delhi police, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) detained an Afghan national late Thursday and recovered 8 kg of heroin worth 56 crore, according to officials on Friday.

Hakmatullah Noorullah alias Aman has been named as the accused who was apprehended.

Sunil Joshi, SP (Operations) ATS, provided further information regarding how they were able to locate and apprehend Noorullah. He stated that on October 8 of this year, the ATS team and the Indian Coast Guard stopped a Pakistani boat (Sakar) off the Jakhau Coast in Gujarat that was carrying 50 kg of heroin valued at 350 crore and detained six Pakistani nationals.

According to Joshi, it was discovered during their questioning that Hakmatullah, who had been in India for about four years on a tourist visa, was to receive the shipment.

Hakmatullah confessed to having 8 kg of heroin hidden in a car after we caught him, according to Joshi.

"We've found the heroin and are looking into the matter. We are also searching for additional suspects who were hired to transport the contraband after it was found on the Gujarat seacoast, the official continued.
